Vintage Marina Partners has added LED lighting to another harbor project and wanted to carry on usage with their extra properties. After the restaurant Proud Mary’s burned down in 2008, the company saw an opportunity during the rebuilding to add eco-friendly lighting.
Outdoor areas that need to be lighted throughout the night are a perfect fit for more efficient and sustainable methods of LED lighting when compared to florescent tubes, stated Dave Simon, president of ilumisys. LED technology is rapidly emerging in commercial grade lighting applications, allowing for broader adoption of solid-state lighting.
Additionally to offering an energy-efficient alternative, unlike the fluorescent tubes they replace, the ilumisys tubes are mercury free. The 500 million to 600 million fluorescent tubes removed annually in the US introduce an anticipated two to four tons of mercury to the environment, despite industry and government efforts to limit mercury content and encourage recycling.
