The financing will be used in the project that calls for reliable power transmission to the southwestern part of the grid, upgrade electricity exchange systems, and improving power supply.
Once completed, the project is said to increase the economic benefits of hydropower assets and regional power trade, while minimizing adverse environmental and social impacts of hydropower development.
World Bank South Caucasus regional director said, "Over the past decade, the Government has made remarkable strides towards improving power sector performance, which has transformed the power sector from the verge of collapse to one that provides reliable electricity at reasonable cost."
The new transmission line will connect the proposed Adjaristsqali River hydropower plants to the grid.
Upon completion of the project, the southwestern part of Georgia, Adjara region, and Batumi area will have fewer power outages.
