E.ON Metering will utilize IBM’s Intelligent Energy Service Enablement Platform (IESEP) to enhance the deployment and management of smart meters, simplify the integration of renewables and other innovative services.

Besides enhancing the integration of renewable and decentralized energy sources, the new platform will also enable the company to improve its customer service through delivery of personalized services that will put them in better control of energy usage.

E.ON will migrate and host the infrastructure in a private cloud using IBM SmartCloud, at one of IBM’s data centers in Germany.

Additionally, the new platform will be upgraded with new analytics and management tools based on IBM software enabling E.ON to provide higher-value-added data services for customers.

IBM Germany Energy Business head Martin Hauske said the rising use of renewable energy is increasing significance of real-time data evaluation in a smart grid for energy enterprises.

"Continued focus on data analysis and process optimization will lead to more growth and greater efficiency in the industry," Hauske added.

E.ON Metering managing director Robert Pflugl said: "The two companies are combining their competencies in energy management and data processing in order to offer the best solutions to the future challenges of the energy turnaround."

With Germany, Austria and Switzerland as the first target markets, the new platform is also expected to be jointly marketed by the two companies in other international markets.
