Iberdrola Renovables noted that production in the January-March period of 2008 reached 4.9 billion kWh, up 80% from the 2.73 billion kWh produced in the same quarter of 2007. Wind power accounted for 98% of the total, of which 51.2% was generated in Spain and 33.3% in the US.

The company’s worldwide installed clean energy capacity totaled 8,164MW at the end of the first quarter of 2008, an 80% increase from the 4,552MW reported a year ago. Wind farms supplied 7,822MW of this capacity and mini-hydro facilities accounted for 342MW.

In Spain, the company raised its installed capacity by 16% to 4,681MW. Wind power accounted for 4,339MW of the total capacity.

At the end of the first quarter, Iberdrola Renovables’s total wind power capacity abroad came to 3,483MW, of which 2,392MW is in the US and 428MW is accounted for by the UK.
