The project, which is being supported by innovation agency Innovate UK, focuses on the offshore wind power sector and has a budget allocation in excess of €1m.
In addition to promoting the offshore wind farms installation in areas that are presently not considered feasible due to water depths, the initiative intends to develop the turbine and an installation system capable of reducing installation time and costs.
The project includes designing of a floating wind turbine model as well as development of an innovative system for installation, which will be implemented on a subsequent basis at selected sites with water depth ranges between 60m and 100m.
The initiative has been included in the Infrastructure for Offshore Renewables Collaborative R&D projects program co-funded by Innovate UK.
The foundations will be moored to the seabed using tensioned cables aimed at limiting the movement of the platform.
Iberdrola plans to apply its experience it acquired in the past four years in Spain in Ocean LÃder and Flottek R&D projects.
