The projects, the Noblesfontein and Klipheuwel wind farms and the Jasper photovoltaic power plant, have a combined capacity of 200MW, which is enough to supply electricity to some 150,000 South African homes and avoid the emission of about 300,000t of CO2 per year.
The two wind power projects, which were built on a turnkey basis, are located in the Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces while the Noblesfontein facility has a capacity of 74MW.
The 74MW Noblesfontein work has been completed under a €112m turnkey contract from a Gestamp Wind-led consortium comprising Shanduka and Sarge.
Noblesfontein wind farm features 41 wind turbines, each with capacity of 1.8MW (Vestas V100 model), as well as a substation and the power line needed to upload the energy to the grid.
Developed by IBERDROLA INGENIERÍA and Group Five under a €40m deal with Biotherm Energy, the 27MW Klipheuwel wind farm features nine wind turbines, each with a unit capacity of 3MW.
The 96MW Jasper photovoltaic power plant nears completion, which is being developed by a group led by SolarReserve and includes Google as an investor.
