The first car to receive the Kappa engine will be the i10, which is 100% produced at Hyundai Motor’s subsidiary in Chennai, India.
The company claims that its i10 minicar with a 1.25-liter Kappa engine will deliver a fuel economy rating of five liters per 100km in the European combined test cycle, for best in class performance while running cleaner.
The company also claims that the Kappa engine has a high specific torque rating of 9.6kgm per liter. It will also be installed in Hyundai’s i20, due to be revealed at the 2008 Paris Auto Show.
Kappa is controlled by two 16–bit 32MHz microprocessors for digitally precise control of the ignition timing, idle speed, knocking and emissions.
