Hydro Green Energy has filed for a preliminary permit to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to install hydrokinetic units on the Niagara river as part of its New York 1 project.

The company proposed to install 36 hydrokinetic units with a combined capacity of 7MW, a 6.7kV transmission line and appurtenant facilities. No dam construction or impoundment is required for the project, to be sited in Niagara County, New York state.

FERC’s notice added that the project is to produce an average output of 550GWh per year.

The application was submitted in early February and has been accepted by FERC, triggering a 60-day period for any comments, protests and motions with respect to the New York 1 project.
