The failure of the annual rains in Ghana, and the resultant drop in hydropower generating capacity, have stimulated a series of temporary power plant projects with the rental company Aggreko.

The company is involved in several projects including a 30 MW power plant at Tema on the outskirts of Accra. This plant will feed power into the national grid.

An 8 MW installation will generate power for Abosso Goldfields while a further 4 MW of power generation equipment will be rented to Teberebie Goldfields. Two 5 MW installations will supply power to cement works at Tema and Takoradi.

The temporary installations are expected to continue to generate power until the end of the year, when seasonal rains will, it is hoped, replenish the nation’s reservoirs.
