Russia's energy giant UES reports a 4.4% total increase in generation during 2006 to reach 694.8TWh, up from 665.4TWh in 2005. Of that amount, hydroelectric power plants produced 125.9TWh, a 1% increase on 2005.

In addition, ample reservoir levels in the Angara-Yenisey and Volga-Kama basins saw part of the load shifted from thermal to hydro capacity. As a result, in December, hydro generation increased by 22.8% while the thermal generation declined by 4.5%.
