Canada Minister of Natural Resources Joe Oliver said, "Our Government is committed to exploring carbon capture and storage technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in key sectors of the Canadian economy."

Husky Energy CEO Asim Ghosh said, "This funding initiative has helped effectively reduce emissions from our Lloydminster Ethanol Plant and positively contributes to our heavy oil production."

Husky’s ethanol plant in Lloydminster will capture carbon dioxide and transport it by truck and inject it into heavy oil reservoirs located nearby to displace oil which is easier to extract.

The company receives the investment which was made through the ecoENERGY Technology Initiative, part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to clean energy innovation.

The Government of Canada has provided a total of $151m through the ecoENERGY Technology Initiative to advance industry-led initiatives for other carbon capture and storage projects.
