Hydro-Quebec International, a subsidiary of Canada’s hydro-quebec, has won a contract to conduct behaviour studies of the Song Loulou hydro electric development in Cameroon. Work on the C$1M contract will begin this year and will end in December 1999.
The Song Loulou development, owned by Societe Nationale d’Electricite du Cameroun, is one of the largest in Africa, comprising eight 28MW turbine generators. The behaviour studies, which have been financed by SONEL, mainly comprise detailed inspection of the reservoir structures, identifying causes of the apparent fissuring in the concrete. Operating problems will also be considered, and remedial work recommended.
This new contract will continue work that has carried out by HQI since 1991; earlier studies have clearly identified deformations in the Song Loulou power station.
