The project is owned by AES Gener and encompasses two complex construction lots in the Andes, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Santiago at a height of roughly 2,500m.
Alto Maipo hydropower plant will feature intake structures such as 18.5 kilometers of tunneling and a five-kilometer-long steel pipeline.
Commenting on the contract Hochtief executive board member Ullrich Reinke highlighted the company’s expertise in tunneling and construction sphere.
"With our know-how and our experienced co-workers in tunneling and power plant construction, we make a major contribution to sustainable energy supplies in high-growth markets," said Reinke
Hochtief is expected to commence construction work in 2013 with completion set for 2017.
