The Hong Kong government has entered into a partnership with HK Electric, a company providing EV infrastructure, for the installation of two charging stations for EVs at the government car parks at Star Ferry and Tin Hau on Hong Kong Island.

The charging stations at Star Ferry and Tin Hau car parks will offer standard charging service for EVs and payment will be made through Octopus. During the trial period, HK Electric will provide free charging services to all the EV users at the charging stations. The company has already established seven EV charging facilities on Hong Kong Island.

At present, EV charging facilities are present at 39 locations across the territory and another 23 locations are expected to be added to the list by mid-2010.

The government plans to encourage the power companies, property developers, property management companies and car park operators to set up charging facilities at their car parks to meet the growing demand for EV charging service in the future.
