Ecuador-based hydropower developer Hidroenergetico del Litoral (Hidrolitoral) has outlined its plans to develop two hydropower plants with an investment of $53m.

In its 2013-2015 strategic plan, the company has included the construction of 12-MW Caluma Bajo and 11-MW Rayo 2 hydropower plants.

Hidrolitoral plans to invest $32m for the Caluma Bajo plant to be located on Pita River of Bolivar Province, while remaining $21m will be put in for Rayo 2 plant on the Toachi Grande River, reported HydroWorld.com.

The company, however, as a beginning is currently planning to commence design studies for the two new hydroelectric projects.

The company was quoted as saying, "Preliminary studies are vital to know the total cost of these projects and their technical and environmental viability."
