Spanish wind turbine tower and flange manufacturer GRI Renewable Industries Group (GRI) has formed a joint venture (JV) with Metalurgia Calviño (CALVIÑO) to commence the production of wind towers in Argentina in the second half of 2017.

The new GRI manufacturing facility will be built in CALVIÑO’s industrial center in Buenos Aires province. The new facility will offer 350 jobs and will supply 300 wind towers a year to the Argentinian market.

GRI and CALVIÑO stated that they are finalizing matters based on technical, financial and legal aspects.

GRI CEO Javier Imaz said: “The alliance between GRI and CALVIÑO will guarantee the supply of wind towers manufactured in Argentina, with the highest international manufacturing quality standards and just-in-time delivery”.

CALVIÑO president Gastón Guarino said: “This Alliance will offer the Argentinian market a solution already proven internationally in different countries. In addition, it will ensure a greater synergy between one of the World’s leading Companies, as it is GRI, with a one the local pioneer Companies in this industry”.

Formed in 2008, GRI is the industrial wind unit of Corporación Acek holding and has 12 manufacturing plants across Spain, the USA, Brazil, China, Turkey, India and South Africa.

GRI has over 3700 employees and its sales stood at €450m euros at the end of the fiscal year 2016.

CALVIÑO, an industrial equipment manufacturer, operates in collaboration with manufacturing firms for thermal power, nuclear and hydroelectric station works.

Previously in 2011, CALVIÑO launched a new division for manufacturing wind towers for high power aerogenerators in Argentina.
