Located near Geelong, around 11km North West of Anglesea, Victoria on the Holcim Moriac quarry site, the GGPP had three stages – drilling, construction of 12MW demonstration plant and upon approval, construction of commercial plant.
Greenearth had already secured around $25m funding from the Victorian State Government.
According to the company, the GGPP is good geothermal prospect for Australia as it could power base load energy for the Geelong area and can power up to 100,000 homes.
The application was in-line with ARENA’s proposal and provided clear five stage path to commercialization, claimed the company.
Greenearth said it will now hold discussions with the Victorian Government, Melbourne University and others to find out the best possible way for Greenearth Energy’s Australian geothermal interests.
