The partners will commence the work on the project after receiving regulatory approvals from the Ministry of Energy and Power Development.
Funding for the project has been secured from the African Import Export Bank over a 10-year period, reports the herald.co.zw.
The proposed solar project is expected to generate about 400MW of energy by 2015. The complete equipment required for the solar farm will be sourced from China and will be backed with a service and a 25-year guarantee.
Currently, Zimbabwe produces approximately 1400MW, but falls short for energy as it requires 2200MW during peak periods. In order to meet the energy demands, the government has inked a contract with Sino Hydro to construct an additional two units at Kariba Hydropower Station, with an investment of about $368m.
