US-based Green Mountain Power and NextEra Energy Resources have signed an agreement that allows Green Mountain to buy electricity for 23 years from NextEra's Seabrook nuclear plant in New Hampshire,US.

Green Mountain Power plans to buy 15 MW from NextEra from 2012-14 to replace expiring power supply contracts.

It will also buy 60 MW of energy of energy from 2015; that will decline to 40 MW by the end of the contract, reports Reuters.

The electricity purchase from NextEra represents about 20% of Green Mountain Power’s overall energy mix that serves about 94,000 customers.

NextEra said it also plans to supply an additional 25 MW of power to other utilities in Vermont under the similar terms.

The agreement between Green Mountain Power and NextEra is subject to an approval from the Vermont regulators.
