The Zambian and Zimbabwean governments, with the support of European Union Delegation to Zambia, is to sign a contract this week for plunge pool reshaping works at Kariba Dam.

The Zambian and Zimbabwean governments, with the support of European Union Delegation to Zambia, is to sign a contract this week for plunge pool reshaping works at Kariba Dam.

Set to be signed tomorrow, the contract is the first component of the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project, which is funded by the European Union, the World Bank, the African Development and the Government of Sweden, together with the Zambezi River Authority, which operates, maintains and manages the Kariba Dam on behalf of the governments of Zambia and Zimbabwe. 

The signing sets the plunge pool reshaping works in motion.

The Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project will ensure that the dam can operate at its full capacity to international standards and that the installed power generation capacity of 1830MW will be retained.
