Global Energy Systems, a subsidiary of the diversified renewable energy company Global Energy Holdings Group, has signed an agreement with the Charlotte County of Florida for the development of a landfill gas sequestration and energy facility at the county’s Zemel Road landfill.
Under the terms of the agreement, Global Energy Systems has purchased all the rights for landfill gas generated at the Zemel Road landfill from North American Natural Resources-Southeast.
With the purchase, Global Energy Systems has the right to construct and operate a landfill gas to electricity project at the Zemel Road landfill.
According to the company, the Zemel Road landfill generates methane, created from the decomposition of its waste. Global Energy Systems expects to make a $6 million investment at the landfill for infrastructure and power generation equipment.
Charlie Wall, COO of Global Energy Systems, said: “The landfill will provide enough gas to generate electricity to power 1,500 homes in Charlotte County every year. This proactive approach to CO2 emissions reductions has the equivalent benefit of removing 17,000 vehicles from our roadways.”
Global Energy Holdings Group is a renewable energy company based in Atlanta, Georgia. Global Energy Systems develops renewable energy projects, including biomass gasification and landfill-gas-to-energy projects. It also coordinates and implements projects, such as cogeneration and heat recovery.
