Glencore is not clear of the number of employees it will rehire as it revamps the operations in a bid to improve equipment and productivity, reported Reuters.

Collinsville coal mine currently has about 420 workers, of which 400 are employees of Thiess.

In February, Glencore announced its plans to take over the operations of the mine from Thiess in August.

The latest move comes at the time when various companies across Australia are eliminating jobs due to decreasing coal prices. Earlier this week, private-sector coal miner Peabody Energy announced its plans to cut 170 jobs across Australia in order to reduce costs.
