The proposed plans are in response to difficult market conditions, and also include reducing coal production target this year.
Glencore said: "The mining complex will continue to support a workforce of more than 650 after the changes are implemented.
"Where vacancies exist, we will explore options for redeployment across out Australian coal operations as well as putting in place support services for affected employees and their families."
In May, the company said it will cease operations at the Newlands mine as the deposit will reach the end of its life in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Earlier this year, Glencore planned to shut its Ravensworth coal mine due to high costs and strong Australian dollar as well as laid-off 300 workers at Newlands and Oaky Creek mines.
