Hydro Mississauga of Canada has revealed a plan to create one giant utility which will rival the size of Toronto’s. It

will be accomplished by merging 23 municipal utilities in the 905 regions, according to a report in the Toronto Star.

The announcement follows

a deal which was recently reached for the sale of 10%

of Hydro Mississauga to Borealis Energy Corporation,

a subsidiary of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retire- ment System pension fund.

Mississauga, Borealis and pension fund officials believe that the other 905 regions

will see that amalgamation would create greater operational efficiencies through

sharing facilities and purchasing new computer systems.
