The second phase of the project would raise the capacity of the station to 440 MW.
Adu-Amankwah stated to Reuters “We had locked the financing in before the crisis kicked in, so the projects are proceeding without any interruptions.”
He asserted that Ghana’s current power production is estimated at roughly 2,000 MW, which exceeds present demand of 1,500 MW. This clearly indicates that the country is not suffering from power deficiencies unlike other nations on the continent. However Adu-Amankwah said that in order to prevent power cuts that happened in the past, Ghana must continue investing in the power sector.
He added “We’ve gone through very turbulent times and we’ve learned our lesson… you have to plan ahead because the consequences can be very bad, both politically and economically.”
Ghana in a joint venture with China, is constructing the Bui hydro electric dam, which is estimated to generate 400 MW.
