The Japanese projects largely include roof-top as well as ground-mounted projects to be constructed over the next 3 years begining with the 30MW Megasolar.

Gestamp Solar CEO Jorge Barredo commented that Kankyo Keiei and Gestamp Solar will jointly develop permits, licenses and authorizations following the identification of suitable roof-tops.

The company is expected to invest upto $1.5bn for the projects.

"As an investor, we believe Japan offers a good environment and the Japanese market is one of our priority markets. Japanese panels fit Japanese culture and we want to have businesses with local suppliers," added Barredo.

Gestamp’s foray into Japan is the result of an incentive program introduced in July 2012 to promote renewable energy generation.
