The first 60MW unit of the Gerusoppa hydro power plant in India has successfully completed its trial run, according to official sources.

The project is being undertaken by the Karnataka Power Corporation (KPC) and has a total installed capacity of 240MW, comprising 4 x 60MW generating units. The plant’ s second unit is expected to be commissioned by the end of May 2001 and the third unit by December 2001. The fourth unit is due to be commissioned in March 2002. The project is estimated to cost around US$84M which has been provided entirely by KPC.
