Innogy’s UK offshore wind farm, Triton Knoll has selected GeoSea as its preferred supplier for turbine transport and installation for the 860MW East Coast wind farm.
The Triton Knoll offshore wind farm is located 33km from shore in the UK’s North Sea and will be spread across in an area 146km2. As per the terms, GeoSea will transport and install 90 of MHI Vestas’ latest 9.5MW offshore wind turbines at the site.
GeoSea’s work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021. Apart from turbine transport and installation, it's work also includes the design and manufacture of the sea-fastening and tagline systems.
Triton Knoll senior project manager Jon Darling said: “From the outset, Triton Knoll has worked collaboratively with its supply chain partners, to ensure that the business case we submitted into the Contracts for Difference auction can and will be delivered, effectively from the point of having won a CfD.
“It’s because of this approach that we’re already able to announce a wealth of preferred suppliers across our entire project, with UK firms playing a strong role in the delivery of the wind farm.”
In September, innogy had received permission from the UK government to begin construction of the Triton Knoll wind farm.
Triton Knoll wind farm’s preferred suppliers include Siemens Transmission and Distribution (STDL) for the design and manufacture of one onshore and two offshore substations and J Murphy & Sons (JMS) for supply and installation of about 60km of underground onshore cable route. MPI Offshore has been selected to transport and install offshore foundations two substations.
The project is expected to see a financial investment decision in 2018, with first energy generation likely to begin in mid-Q1 2021.
