The company has drilled and completed the Curucucu 1 exploration well to a total depth of 14,600ft. The production test carried out with an electric submersible pump in the Guadalupe formation showed a production rate of around 1,700 barrels of oil per day.
The oil produced from the Curucucu well consisted of 15.8 degrees of American Petroleum Institute gravity (API), with a 0.4% water cut.
According to GeoPark, additional production history is needed to determine stabilized flow rates of the well.
The company said that surface facilities have been placed in the well, which is already in production. During the drilling stage, petrophysical log analysis carried out on the well also demonstrated that presence of potentially productive hydrocarbons in the shallower Mirador formation.
Curucucu 1 exploration well was drilled from an existing well pad in the recently discovered Jacamar oil field in a bid to minimize surface construction costs and share production facilities.
The company has drilled the well with a horizontal extension of more than 9,000ft. The oil field is the 11th one discovered by the company since acquiring the prolific Llanos 34 block in 2012.
During the third quarter of this year, GeoPark intends to drill around seven wells in the Llanos 34 block.
GeoPark CEO James Park said: "Another geological and operational win for our team – with our thirteenth new oil field discovery in Colombia and successfully drilling a highly technical well with an extended reach.
“GeoPark’s long term investment in our people, oil and gas capabilities, and regional platform continues to pay off and propel us into the leading position to take advantage of the exciting and abundant opportunities in Latin America today.”
