The construction of the first project is expected to start in second half of 2011 and become operational in 2013-14.
The first waste-to-ethanol plant worth EUR103m ($148.3m) will have a capacity to produce about 90 million liters of ethanol that can be blended with gasoline and used as transport fuel.
The second plant with double capacity than the first is expected to become operational by 2014-15 with an estimated investment of EUR206m ($296.7m).
The final project will cost about €126.7m ($182.5m) and will be co-located in Gozo and Malta, according to Bloomberg.
