The new hybrid vehicles will add to GE’s existing 3000 vehicles fleet of alternative fuel vehicles; the company is targeting a total of 25,000 alternatively-fueled vehicles.
Ford Motors in exchange will jointly market GE’s alternative fuel infrastructure such as charging stations and natural gas fueling stations.
The two companies will also collaborate with researchers at Georgia Tech to study GE employee driving and charging habits to improve all-electric driving and charging performance.
Commenting on the collaboration Georgia Tech professor Bert Bras remarked that the understanding of driving and charging habits is important for further developing the hybrid vehicles infrastructure.
"Through access to vehicle data, we can accelerate research and development of new technologies to further improve efficiency, driver satisfaction and environmental benefits," said Bras.
