Expected to carry good prices at Letšeng’s tenders held in Antwerp, Belgium, the blue diamond has been encountered from the Main pipe while the white diamond was intersected from the Satellite pipe.
Gem Diamonds CEO Clifford Elphick said Letšeng will continue to recover occasional rare blue or pink diamond as well as large, white, largely undamaged diamonds on a relatively consistent basis.
"As mining focuses on the higher value and higher grade Satellite pipe during the latter part of this year, it is expected that Letšeng will continue to produce more of these exceptional diamonds," Elphick added.
The Letšeng mine, which is 70% owned by Gem Diamonds and remaining by the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, involves production of large, top colour, exceptional white diamonds.
