US engineering firm, GEI Consultants, Inc., has been hired to provide materials testing for a construction project at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station near Burlington, Kansas.

GEI was hired by Bechtel Power to provide materials testing and on-site inspection of 30,000 linear feet of buried essential service water (ESW) piping that is being replaced. GEI said that it has opened a testing laboratory in Burlington to support the project, which began last summer.

The work is expected to be completed by December 2014.

Wolf Creek is a 1200 MW Westinghouse pressurized water reactor (PWR). It began operation in 1985, and in 2008 had its operating life extended for another twenty years, through 2045.
