GE Water & Process Technologies (GE Water), a unit of General Electric Company (GE), has introduced a new ultrafiltration (UF) membrane technology, ZeeWeed 1500 to the ZeeWeed UF products family. The new ZeeWeed 1500 module provides cost-effective, skid-mounted solutions that can be rapidly installed for water treatment, tertiary filtration and pretreatment for brackish and seawater desalination.

ZeeWeed is available for small- and medium-sized packaged and custom designs for municipal and industrial plants and joins GE’s portfolio of products designed to tackle global water challenges.

“The evolution of the ZeeWeed 1500 leverages decades of UF membrane experience earned at some of the world’s most demanding water and wastewater applications,” said Heiner Markhoff, president and CEO, GE Water. “The addition of a new pressurized membrane expands the versatility of our portfolio and provides our clients with a broader choice of robust, cost-effective products to help achieve their treatment needs.”

Key features of the ZeeWeed 1500 include:

Low-fouling PVDF membrane chemistry offering lower frequency and less aggressive cleaning;

Outside-in filtration process providing uniform flow distribution and solids loading with no blocked fibers;

UF barrier to produce high quality effluent that meets the toughest treatment requirements;

Lower chemical usage over comparable systems;

Compact module and simple rack design, with on-rack inspection capability;

Ability to retrofit other outside-in UF and MF systems.

The ZeeWeed 1500 leverages the performance of GE’s ecomagination-certified ZeeWeed technology and offers similar environmental benefits such as high water recovery and reduced plant footprint. Ecomagination is GE’s corporate-wide initiative to help customers address current environmental challenges, such as the need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water.

Available in standard and custom designs for small and medium-sized plants, the ZeeWeed 1500 provides a cost-effective solution that can be rapidly delivered and installed. As a lower-cost pressurized system offering simplified construction, quick installation and high quality water treatment, the new product is well suited for projects in global markets.

ZeeWeed is an advanced ultrafiltration technology that uses hollow-fiber membranes to separate particles from water. This technology produces superior quality drinking water by removing virtually all harmful pathogens and suspended solids. The UF membranes can restore wastewater to such high quality that it can be safely discharged to the most sensitive environments, or reused in irrigation, industrial processes or groundwater recharge. To date, over 900 GE ZeeWeed systems have been installed worldwide.
