GE Energy will supply two additional Frame 6FA gas turbine-generators, additional equipment and services to Duro Felguera of Asturias, Spain, the lead contractor for the new project. The plant owner and operator will be Gas y Electricidad Generacion, the Balearic Islands branch of Endesa.

The two new Frame 6FA units will add about 150MW of capacity for the Cas Tresorer plant. Four 75MW GE Frame 6FA units already are in operation in the Balearic Islands including two at Cas Tresorer.

The gas turbines for the Cas Tresorer extension project will be manufactured at GE Energy’s facilities in Belfort, France, and shipped to the site starting in the fourth quarter of 2008. The scope of GE’s contract also includes technical advisory services during installation and commissioning at the Cas Tresorer site.

The new gas turbines, which will be capable of operating on natural gas as well as distilled liquid fuel, are scheduled to enter commercial operation in the third quarter of 2009 and will help Gas y Electricidad Generacion meet increasing electricity demand on the Balearic Islands.
