GE Renewable Energy has secured a wind turbine supply contract from Invenergy for a 300MW project in the US.

The deal requires GE to supply 120 GE2.5-116 90m turbines for the Santa Rita wind farm in Reagan County, Texas.

Expected to be operational by the end of this year, the 300MW wind farm will provide electricity to around 102,500 homes in teh US.

A portion of the turbines installed at the wind farm will feature blades manufactured by LM Wind Power.

GE has also signed a $13M and ten-year cybersecurity deal with Invenergy GE for the protection of all existing wind turbines, in addition to future wind farms.

GE will deploy its digital wind farm solutions at the facility, including software to support wind operations such as asset performance management analytic capabilities and cyber security through its SCADA secure edition.

The deal includes upgrading Invenergy’s legacy controls, up-grading and protecting their network security with Wurldtech’s Opshield, a security solution for industrial and process control environments.

GE onshore wind business president and CEO Pete McCabe said: “Invenergy and GE have a long history of successfully working together to provide several gigawatts of affordable, reliable, sustainable energy.

“We are pleased to continue this relationship as we develop the Santa Rita Wind Farm and bring more renewable energy to Texas.”

Invenergy EVP and chief commercial officer Jim Shield said: “We are always exploring innovative ways to advance our clean energy generation and we’re excited to work with GE – a long-standing partner with an excellent reputation for innovation – to maximize the efficiency of our Santa Rita Wind Farm.”
