GE has been awarded a contract by China’s Harbin Electric (HE) to provide 9HA gas turbine for the 650MW Huadian Tianjin Junliangcheng VI gas combined-cycle power plant (Junliangcheng).
The contract is part of a project to convert the Junliangcheng facility from a coal-fired power plant to a gas-fired power plant with GE technology.
Expected to be one of the most efficient power plants, the Junliangcheng plant will help save coal consumption of over one million tons annually upon completion.
GE’s Gas Power Systems president and CEO Joe Mastrangelo said: “GE has worked closely with HE for more than a decade, and today’s announcement represents a significant milestone in our journey to deliver the world’s most advanced gas turbine technology in China.
“Bringing the HA to China is important for the acceleration of China’s power industry, enabling more affordable, reliable, accessible and sustainable power generation.”
GE is scheduled to deliver the gas turbine, the first HA in the China, in the third quarter of 2018.
According to the China's 13th Five Year Plan of Electricity Development estimates, installed capacity of gas electricity in the country is estimated to increase over 10%, reaching 110GW from 2015 to 2020.
GE Power China vice-president Yang Dan said: “It’s exciting to bring the world’s most advanced gas turbine technology to China.”
Upon completion, the Junliangcheng power plant is expected to have combined-cycle efficiency of over 62%, reduce SOx emission by up to 1,194t, NOx emissions by up to 500t, and CO2 emissions by more than two million tons annually.
