Under the deal, GE will supply six refrigeration compressors, six variable-speed drive electric motors, six 75-megawatt (MW) synchronous electric motors, gas insulated switchgear, harmonic filters, e-houses and other electrical equipment for two customized LNG liquefaction trains.
In addition, it will provide the required capital to take the project further from pre-construction engineering and design stage.
The project is expected to become the first world-scale electric LNG (eLNG) plant in North America, claims the company.
Freeport LNG CEO Michael Smith said: "GE’s strong partnership and expertise have helped us address this project’s unique challenges, quickly.
"Through its innovative technology, financial expertise and ability to address environmental challenges in a cost-effective manner, GE is helping us to create the lowest air emissions and carbon footprint in the U.S. LNG industry."
GE will construct the refrigeration trains in Florence, Italy and will conduct tests in Massa, Italy.
The refrigeration trains will be delivered at the site in 2016 and will be fully operational by 2017.
