GE has introduced a new advanced low-wind speed turbine, the 1.7-103, which it says has been specifically developed and engineered in India for the country’s low wind-speed conditions.

With a 103m diameter rotor, the 1.7MW turbine will help deliver high-efficiency output and attractive project economics for wind farm operators, GE says. The model is also capable of achieving a 30 per cent increase in annual electricity production compared to its predecessor, the 1.6-82.5 wind turbine.

GE said its latest offering ‘underscores the company’s effort to provide localised solutions to India.’

India is rapidly increasing its power generation using renewable energy and renewables now account for more than 5 per cent of the country’s energy mix by production and 12 per cent by installed capacity.
