GE Energy has been selected as the turbine and generator unit supplier for a new 195MW hydroelectric power plant in Sichuan Province, China.

GE will supply three 65MW Francis turbines, with head ranging from 304 to 345m. The scope of GE’s contract also includes valves, spare parts and training.

The contract for the plant was announced at Power-Gen Asia 2005. It expected to generate 957MkWh/yr and will be located on the Baoxing river in Baoxing county.

The turbines, generators and valves will be supplied from GE Hydro Asia’s manufacturing plant in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou city, Zhejiang province. Installation of the equipment at the project site will begin in April of 2006 with the three units scheduled to begin commercial operation in October of 2007, January of 2008 and April of 2008, respectively.

The plant will be owned by Sichuan Huaneng Baoxinghe Hydropower, a wholly owned subsidiary of the China Huaneng Group, one of the nation’s largest power companies.
