Pacifico Energy is currently managing construction and operations of JPY35bn ($291m) Hosoe solar power project on Kyushu Island in the prefecture of Miyazaki.
GE Energy Financial Services’ investment share for the construction of the 96.2MW (DC) photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant comes to JPY35bn ($291m).
Toyo Engineering is responsible for the construction of the project, which features Trina Solar-built approximately 300,000 photovoltaic modules, while Asahi Dengyo is providing operations and maintenance services.
GE is providing 50 units of 1.26MW Brilliant solar inverters for the project, which is scheduled to enter service in the spring of 2018.
Power generated from the facility will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Company under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Japan aims to generate 20% of power generation from renewable power sources by 2020 through support by the country’s regulatory policies and feed-in tariff.
Capable of reducing 68,200t of CO2 emissions per year, the solar project will generate enough clean energy to power up to 30,000 households while contributing to the country’s renewable energy goals.
GE Energy Financial Services Asia Pacific managing director and head Sushil Verma said: "We aim to continue helping Japan achieve a diversified power mix."
