Since the full liberalization of the European energy market came into effect on July 1, 2007, Gaz de France has reportedly won more orders than its smaller domestic rival Poweo from French electricity customers who have changed their supplier, Thomson Financial quotes Les Echos as saying, which cited figures from EDF's distribution network.

Compared to a meager 900 clients opting for Poweo in the months of September and October, Gaz de France has already captured 80% of the new contracts from a subscriber base of 5,000 who have opted for a change of supplier from October, the report said.

Since July 1, a total of 9,500 customers have stopped subscribing to EDF, the report added.
