Under the agreement, Gdf Suez will buy the electricity generated by Allerton Waste Recovery Park, which has been designed to process around 320,000t of household and some commercial waste each year.

Scheduled to be operational by early 2018, the facility will process waste to generate enough renewable electricity to power around 40,000 homes per year.

Gdf Suez will purchase up to 208GWh of electricity annually from the power plant.

The PPA also includes a floor price, guaranteeing a minimum rate should market prices fall steeply, in order to provide an assured return on investment for the project’s funders.

Around 95% of York and North Yorkshire’s household waste from landfill will be diverted by the facility upon completion.
