RIA Novosti reports that the two sides, together with the Kazakh energy minister, agreed that gas from the Karachaganak field would be transported to a processing point some 130km away in Russia.
The meeting also saw discussion of future export deals for gas from Kazakhstan, which has proven reserves totaling 2,000bcm, and the report adds that the central Asian country is looking to increase its exports in the years ahead. It currently produces around 12bcm of gas annually and consumes less than half of this domestically.
