Under the terms of the agreement, Gazprom will supply two billion cubic meters of Russian gas to Romania per year. This yearly supply will amount to some 42 billion cubic meters over the lifetime of the contract.
The contract builds on the companies’ existing relationship and on a preliminary agreement that was signed in September 2006.
Gazprom said that Conef has been working with its export arm since 2002, and added that the natural gas delivered as part of this partnership has significantly helped to resolve Romania’s energy supply problems. During Romania’s supply troubles, Conef supplied nearly five billion cubic meters of Russian gas to the country.
Russia has supplied Romania with gas since 1979. According to Gazprom, as of April 1, 2007, Romania had received some 110 billion cubic meters of Russian gas.
