In a bid to fulfil its strategic goal of increasing its business share in the Romanian market Gaz de France has entered the bidding to buy local power outfit Muntenia Sud.

A report in Platts Commodity News has identified Gaz de France as one of ten companies bidding for control of the Romanian power company.

According to the article, Gaz de France has already made its offer and is now awaiting Mutenia Sud’s decision, due at the end of January.

The move comes as part of Gaz de France’s aim to increase it power generation capacity in Belgium and Romania to 7,000 megawatts by 2007. With this in mind GDF, in partnership with UK-based Centrica, has already acquired a 51% share in Belgian Societe de Production Electricite.
