The selected companies are Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Alstom Carbon Capture and Siemens of Germany, Norway’s Aker Clean Carbon and a Huaneng-CERI Powerspan joint venture.
The purpose of the technology qualification program is to come up with a scalable technology, use at the combined heat and power plant at Mongstad, and meets health and safety requirements.
Statoil and state carbon capture agency Gassnova aim to select a viable technology from the competition in 2014.
The concept selection around the same time will enable front-end engineering and design bids to be submitted.
A final investment decision on the scheme is targeted in 2016.
