GAS
A new pipeline to deliver natural gas from Nigeria to power plants in three neighbouring countries is being trumpeted by Chevron as a major source of jobs and investment in the region.
The company claimed the West Africa pipeline could bring $1.8 billion in investment and up to 20 000 jobs. The gas will provide fuel for power plants in Ghana, Togo and Benin.
According to Chevron estimates, the project will lead to up to $400 million in direct regional investment for the pipeline itself, another $600 million for power plants and $800 million in new industries. It will also reduce the amount of gas flared in Nigeria. The 1000 km offshore pipeline will transfer 5 million cubic metres of gas each day
