The Liupanshui City authorities were quoted by Xinhua News Agency as saying that 130 miners were underground when the blast occurred.
However, 120 of them managed to escape. Bodies of all the ten miners have been recovered from the mine pit.
A joint venture between a local coal firm and the China Resources Power Holdings, Guizhou Hualong Coal Industry operates the Xinhua Coal Mine.
In recent months, China has witnessed a series of coal mine accidents – last week, gas burst at the Yanshitai Coal Mine in Wansheng district, Chongqing city left 22 miners dead.
In May, a gas burst at Yushe Coal Mine in Shuicheng County, Guizhou Province, killed five miners.
China earlier unveiled plans to cease production at around 2,000 small-scale coal mines to improve safety and efficiency in its mining industry.
