Under the contract, the wind farm technology provider will also perform operation and maintenance services on the machines for 20 years.

The company plans to start installing the turbines with combined capacity of 258MW in the state of Río Grande do Sul in the first half of 2013 and expects to finish it in the first quarter of 2014.

Gamesa said the value of the transaction is about BRL843m ($416.15m).

When fully operational, the 10 wind farms will generate nearly 957,000MWh of electricity annually, enough to power about 510,000 homes in Brazil.

Gamesa Mercosur regional director Edgard Corrochano said, "This order underscores Gamesa’s commitment to the Brazilian wind market, which has priority status in our global development plans."

Within about a year since it began manufacturing turbines in Brazil, the company said it has won contracts to supply a total of 652MW to projects being developed in Bahía, Ceará and Río Grande do Sul.
